Lent

The season of Lent lasts for forty days (not including Sundays). It is a time when Christians reflect and prepare for the celebrations of Easter. Some people fast, eat frugally or give up treats following the example of Jesus, who fasted for forty days in the wilderness.

People also give to charity, set aside time to study the Bible and meet with other Christians to reflect on Jesus’ life and prepare for the events of Holy Week and Easter.

Read the life of Jesus and the early history of the Church through the eyes of the Apostle Luke

This year you are invited to join us and read the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts through Lent. Historically it is believed that St Luke the Evangelist wrote not only the Gospel that bears his name but also the book that outlines the birth of God’s church. This Lent find a small spot in the day just for you and God, to relax and reflect together.

Suggested Readings

Suggested Pattern

  • Pause for a moment of silence for perhaps just one minute.
  • Read the reading for that day.
  • Pause for a moment of silence to reflect upon the reading.
  • Finish by saying a short prayer.

Suggested Closing Prayer

Father, I thank You for Your Spirit’s presence. May Your Word be planted deep in my spirit.
Help me not to be just a reader but also a doer of Your Word.
Help me meditate on Your Word and so build my life on the rock of Your truth. Amen.
